The Truth Of Christmas

Romsey Rag The Truth of Christmas Dec 2023Jesus told him, “I am the Way—yes, and the Truth and the Life. No one can get to the Father except by means of me. (John 14:6, Living Bible).

Spoiler alert. If Santa is part of your Christmas tradition, don’t read any further.

We have never ‘done’ Santa in our house. You know, the bloke that brings you gifts; sees everything you do; works out whether you are naughty or nice; and on one night of the year is everywhere all at once.

There were two reasons for the absence of Santa. The first was a selfish reason – I worked real hard for that money to buy those gifts and no one else was getting credit for them – particularly if they didn’t exist. The second, and more important reason, was that if we ‘did’ Santa and then my children realised the truth about Santa, I didn’t want them to then doubt the truth I had taught them about God. I wanted them to hear the truth from the start about God who does see all we do; who will ultimately judge us for our good and evil (thank God I believe in Jesus and I am saved); who is everywhere all at once, all of the time; and who gave the greatest gift of all to us, his Son Jesus.

That is the truth about Christmas and the one that I wanted my children to learn.

If you want to learn the truth about Christmas, join us for our Family Christmas Service at 10am on Sunday the 17th December followed by a church picnic; or our Christmas Eve services at 10am and 7pm on Sunday 24th December.
